Our Services

Our ant extermination services in Gatineau

Pestora treats ant infestations in houses, condos and businesses across the five sectors of Gatineau. Every pest control visit starts outside, where the parent colony almost always sits.

Carpenter ants in Gatineau homes

Carpenter ants excavate damp wood into smooth galleries swept clean of sawdust. Our technicians probe rim joists, door sills, window frames and the base of wall studs, then follow the worker trail back to the stump or the tree that holds the main nest. Species detail and framing damage are covered on our carpenter ant extermination page.

Ants in Gatineau condos and apartment buildings

In an apartment building or a condo, one colony feeds several units through wall voids and plumbing chases. We treat the affected units at the same time as the building perimeter, in coordination with the condo board or the owner. See our residential pest control for houses, condos and apartment buildings.

Ants in Gatineau businesses

Restaurants, daycares, offices and retail stores in Gatineau get the same inspection: kitchens, loading docks and the wood of back patios give ant colonies a reason to move in. Our visits are scheduled outside opening hours and our unmarked vehicles keep things discreet in front of your customers. See commercial pest control or the integrated pest management program for documented monitoring all year.

Our plan of action

Our ant extermination method in Gatineau

An ant treatment limited to the interior leaves the parent colony intact in its dead wood. The workers take the same route again a few weeks later. Our extermination method therefore covers the property as much as the building, in four steps, on every visit in Gatineau.

Ants in your home?

Property and house inspection, ant nest located, fixed price before the work and a written guarantee.

01/ Interior and exterior inspection.

We follow the worker trails from the counter to the wall, then we inspect the property: stumps, wounded trees, firewood piles, the deck, flower beds and the foundation.

02/ Species identification.

Carpenter ant, pavement ant or pharaoh ant: the bait, the dose and the application point change completely from one species to the next.

03/ Treatment of the main nest and the satellite nests.

Non-repellent baits approved by Health Canada, carried by the workers all the way to the queen and the brood, a perimeter barrier along the foundation and caulking of entry points.

04/ Follow-up and written guarantee.

A check-up visit two to three weeks after treatment, a written guarantee handed over before the work starts and free return visits if the ant infestation comes back during the covered period.

What's Really Going On

Carpenter ants and the Gatineau housing stock

Gatineau came out of the 2002 municipal merger (in French), which brought Aylmer, Buckingham, Gatineau, Hull and Masson-Angers together into one very spread-out city. The city’s housing stock therefore runs from the older buildings of the original cores to recent subdivisions carved out of the woods. In both cases the main nest stays outside and the house serves as foraging ground, which is why ants keep coming back into the house after a treatment done indoors only.

Vieux-Hull, Val-Tétreau and Aylmer

On the old streets of Vieux-Hull, Val-Tétreau and Vieux-Aylmer, carpenter ants settle into the damp wood of balconies, sills, window frames and rim joists set on a low foundation. The mature maples lining those streets often hold the main nest, a few metres from the front steps.

Le Plateau, Mont-Bleu and Limbour

The newer sectors of Le Plateau, Mont-Bleu and Limbour were laid out right into the forest: stumps, cut trees and wooded strips at the back of the lots stayed in place behind the houses. The carpenter ant colony settles outdoors there in the spring, then pushes a satellite nest toward a garage wall or a flower bed set against the foundation.

Ant extermination prices in Gatineau

A carpenter ant extermination generally runs between $300 and $800, depending on the number of nests, access to the property and the size of the building. Sealing the entry points adds $100 to $300 when the foundation and the edges of the basement windows let insects through. Every quote is free, with a fixed price given before the work starts and the written guarantee handed over at the same time.

FAQ

FAQ: ant exterminator in Gatineau

Do you treat ants in every Gatineau sector?

Yes. Our Gatineau / Outaouais division covers the Hull, Aylmer, Gatineau, Buckingham and Masson-Angers sectors, from Vieux-Hull and Wrightville out to Pointe-Gatineau, Templeton and the rural roads of Masson-Angers. We also travel to Chelsea, Cantley, Val-des-Monts, La Pêche and the Pontiac. The standard lead time is 48 to 72 hours, with 24/7 priority for emergencies.

The city covers a lot of ground and much of its housing stock touches the woods: forest strips at the back of the lots, mature maples in the old neighbourhoods, the banks of the Gatineau River and the Ottawa River. Carpenter ants first colonize that outdoor dead wood, stumps and wounded trees, then extend satellite nests toward the nearest house.

Because the queen and the brood stay outside, in a stump, a hollow tree or a firewood pile. An aerosol kills the workers you can see while the parent colony keeps producing replacements. Repellent insecticides even push the colony to split into extra satellite nests. The treatment has to reach the main nest through baits the workers carry home themselves.

Allow two to six weeks for the colony to be wiped out, even though ant activity drops within the first few days: the bait has to travel from the property to the queen and the brood, the only ones that reproduce. The workers still in sight are working for you, since they are the ones carrying the product back to the main nest. A check-up visit confirms the end of the infestation two to three weeks after treatment.

Yes. The products used against ants are approved by Health Canada and applied by a technician certified by the Ministère de l’Environnement, following integrated pest management principles. The baits are placed out of reach of children and pets, inside structural voids, behind baseboards and along the outside foundation. You receive written instructions tailored to the visit before the technician leaves.

The carpenter ant is large, often black, with an evenly rounded thorax; common black garden ants are noticeably smaller. The most reliable sign is fine sawdust piling up under a baseboard, a window frame or a basement beam, sometimes with a faint rustling inside the wall. Winged ants swarming indoors in the spring point to a satellite nest already set in the framing.
